Good morning, classmates and teachers. The theme of our speech under the national flag today is to welcome the New Year and imagine the future.
The New Year is coming, and the year 2020 has been a year that felt like fiction rather than reality. Looking back at 2020, the onslaught of COVID-19 has disrupted our normal daily life, halted progress, cut off the road home for many, and caught us all by surprise when doing so. No one expected the extraordinary events of the year 2020 to occur in such a way, but it was clear that none of us were overwhelmed by this sudden calamity. Happiness and sorrow, success and failure have always been the valuable treasures of growth.
Some people say: the human life has three days, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. These three days constitute the three steps of life. But we also need to understand that a person’s life is made up of countless such days, and that it will not cherish today’s people, nor cherish yesterday’s people, and will not look forward to tomorrow.
Time does not practice in favoritism, as 24 hours remain the same for everyone. On the other hand, time is not always treated the same, and many people use it in different ways. Although Time is fair to all and everyone has the same amount of time every day, there are those who know how to use their time wisely. Those who do, tend to gain more than those who waste the time that they have.
Tao Yuanming, a famous poet, once said: “If a good year does not come again, it is hard to get up in the morning again. We are young, we are the spring of life, and we will become the tide of the times fighting the waves of the new generation.
In the New Year, we should constantly seek change, enterprise, development and creation. I hope you can make a perfect end to your study and life this semester with satisfactory grades and excellent performance. Happy New Year!
